Where to begin?
This collection of thoughts and stories began 30 years ago or so. I don't have active memories, rather pictures of my very first rides but my memories from 5 and 6 yrs old on seem intact and so that is where I see my beginning.
We all have those first horses that touched our senses and ensnared our hearts. Many more stories to come from this section of my life. Those first schooling and camp horses lead us two directions in life as horse girls:
To be the junior camp counselor during summers and fading from college riding into the professional world where you work, and or have a family and find riding again 15-20 years later. Some are lucky and find it sooner with a horse obsessed child. Others longer as they wait to retire or have no kids in the house.
To be the Camp Director and then Riding instructor or trainer. Some may go on to Barn managers or open their own small riding schools. Some become professional riders, certainly those who have the means and backing. Some us scrape and dig our way through this tough world on our own merits and our own finances because we can't help but fuel our obsession 24/7 with horses.
I'm not sure about you but, I was 100% horse obsessed! I had a therapist once ask my mom if it was normal for me to act like a horse in public, Facepalm, it's been a problem was her response. These were the beginnings of what would become my life's work.
The name One Red Horse has been an evolution of ideas that began as a high school business project where I laid out the plans for a mobile horse training business called CG Combined Training. My old Quarter horse love, Legend is the horse behind the name, One Red Horse. More on Legend in later blogs.I do find that there has always been a special horse with some type or red, sorrel, chestnut in their coloring along for my entire journey thus far.
I have ridden for 30 years and while there are obvious ups and downs, this project has been an exceptional look back on those years and things I failed at and horses I have failed and successes and triumphs. I hope to share my experiences and wisdoms as I embark on this next 30 years of my life as a Horsewoman.
